Cost is based on what services you select, how extensive your project is, and how much time I estimate it will take. Proposals, however, are free.
Preserving your assets so they last as long as possible before replacement is always cost effective on higher dollar items. In many cases, failing equipment can be a safety issue, failing equipment can throw parts that could injure persons or other equipment. For the same reason that you change the oil in your car and check the air in the tires, you should have a PM schedule for your assets. This also affords the opportunity to build relationships with vendors, they get to know your needs, your equipment, the issues you have had with it and are better able to assist with recommendations when it comes time to replace an asset.
What is it’s replacement value? Where is it in it’s life cycle? The answers to these questions enable you to make informed decisions when confronted with major maintenance expenses. Repair or replace? With no records, that question can not be answered as a business decision, only as an immediate cash flow decision.
YES! Starting with the ‘low hanging fruit’ begins a savings cycle that affords moving to the bigger items, which in turn, save even more… so utilizing the savings from initial sustainability initiatives, pays for the next steps. From a client’s point of view, there is a rapidly growing movement to purchase from sustainable companies. That means that the more you can show publicly that you are a sustainable enterprise, that you have goals and a plan, the more your business will grow.
ESG is a company’s performance and risk exposure in the context of its environmental impact, social responsibility, and how it is governed. ESG is incorporated into financial decision-making by using relevant environmental, social and governance metrics to better understand how these factors influence the company, and how the company influences these. ESG goes beyond initiatives and programs into a strategy that is ideally integrated into the broader corporate strategy to address stakeholder demands, primarily from investors and/or regulators, such as climate related disclosure mandates. ESG in practice involves rigorous goal setting, implementation, measuring and reporting on environmental, social, and corporate governance activities. CSR and sustainability programs are often part of an ESG strategy, they are not equivalent. A strong ESG strategy provides opportunities to tap into new markets and increase presence in the existing ones. Contrary to this scenario, a company associated with environmental or social wrongdoing, such as human rights violations or environmental harm, may lose customers and face shutdowns, fines or strained community and labor relations.
Sustainability is a huge component in business today. This is why I value my SFP credential. There are many pieces to this puzzle, some of which are still not clearly defined. Starting small and working up to the bigger things is the best method, it allows the reduced operating costs of the smaller projects to help offset the expenses of future larger scale Sustainability projects. Carbon Neutrality is a long-term project (20+ years) and must be planned well up front. I work with Consultants whose projects I have been acquainted with for this process as it is very specialized.
With the progression of Carbon Neutrality and ESG reporting, your customers will be able to see all vendors progress and will begin to make decisions regarding whom they will do business with based on those reports, the better your scores, the more clients will want to do business with you, because your scores affect their scores.
