Sensors are getting a lot of air time these days, and for good reason. But before going out and buying a bunch of sensors determine: 1. What are you trying to learn? 2. What are you trying to solve? 3. Am I willing to spend the time and resources to continually monitor and make the changes the sensors indicate are needed? AI and the IOT can give us a lot of data, but is it what we need? Do you want better IAQ? More even temperature? Equipment vibration? Occupancy determination, what areas of the Workplace Environment are employees using? Bluetooth devices to determine where equipment is in the building? And the list goes on. Once you have answered those questions you can begin the search for sensors that meet the criteria. WiFi or wired? POE or battery? Security becomes an issue, consult with IT for their assistance. Remember that the goal is always to create a better Workplace Experience through a better environment, less equipment downtime, and with less cost. Sensors, WHY? Because we all want a better environment, run more efficiently, and data will help us get there.
