Strategic Facility Plans – A Critical Piece of your Success!

Business decision making has to have guidelines, Mission, Vision, Values and out of those comes the Strategic Plan, a 2-5 year plan (following your organizations SP) encompassing the entire portfolio of owned and/or leased space that sets facility goals based on the organizations strategic goals. Understanding requires a thorough knowledge of your organizations mission, vision values and goals. Exploration of possible futures is needed to assess and analyze your organizations facility needs through analyzation. Plan for responses and updates to the existing plan as needed in response to market changes need to be developedto keep focused on long term goals. Plan your actions to implement the SFP. Include the type, quantity and location of spaces needed with first an in depth analysis of what exists, and second an affordable achievable plan to meet the future needs. Identify the differences between current and future so you can provide a roadmap. This process is Facilities envisioning the organizations future by linking facility purpose with organizational strategy, then develop goals, objectives and actions to meet the future. Once the big picture SFP is approved you can move to the Facility Master Plan, a framework for the physical properties. This is site-specific, and will include things beyond property lines such as community needs, ESG… The FMP starts withscenarios to accomplish the needs of the organization representing different priorities and criteria to look at all of the options. This will get detailed considering zoning, space, workflow, stacking plans, long term maintenance… Finally the Annual Tactical Plan, super fine details for a specific building to include operational plans, maintenance plans, budget… Now it is time to execute the plan(s) This was an overview, in the future we will dig deeper into phases of this process.
